Heritage Fruits Society Netting Day December 2011

The Society's volunteers net the apple trees every December to protect them from hungry birds, possums and kangaroos.
We would love to be able to afford permanent orchard netting ... however the cost is out of our league!
Instead we enjoy fun and fitness at working bees.
  • Nets stretched out ready to be laid over trees
  • The faithful cherry-picker also waiting to help.
  • Covering the trees
  • Navigating the cherry picker around the rows
  • Using long poles to hook the netting
  • People on both sides of the row, lifting netting
  • That part's done!
  • Trees almost covered
  • A covered row, ready for the netting to be pegged close to the branches
