Heritage Fruits Society: Nectarine (Prunus persica var. nucipersica) varieties in Australia

Nectarines are simply peaches with smooth skins. They set from November to mid-January. Many heritage nectarine varieties are available from Mt Alexander Fruit Gardens, in Harcourt, Central Victoria; Daley's Nursery in NSW; Yalca Fruit Trees; Thistlebrook in Queensland and Fruit Trees Australia

Caldesi 2010:
Fruit: Medium to large of premium quality. Skin: 60 to 70% striped red skin on light green background. Flesh: White. Solid with aromatic flavour.
Stone: Freestone.

Maturity: Approximately 20 days after Redhaven. Pollinators: Presumed self fertile. Comments: Vigorous and productive tree.
Cardinal
Earliglo:
A delicious, highly coloured yellow fleshed clingstone nectarine. Medium sized. Skin colour is glossy red over a golden-yellow ground colour. Good flavour with a firm, juicy flesh. Upright growing habit. Low chill, suitable for areas with limited winter chill. Early maturity.
Early Rivers:
Older white fleshed nectarine, tender and juicy, small fruits and a very good bearer. A favourite with many people, but often no longer available for sale in mainstream nurseries
Fairlane:
Late season yellow nectarine, can be very large. Clingstone, with fairly tough red skin over a mottled yellow background. Firm, sweet flesh with coarse texture and well developed flavour. Picking Dates: 24 Feb to 28 Mar
Fantasia:
Medium to large yellow flesh nectarine. Bright red skin with bright yellow background. Firm and sweet with freestone (which makes it great for chutney), but not so good for bottling because flesh tends to lose shape when cooked. Picking Dates: 8 to 18 Feb
Firebrite:
A brilliant red, medium sized fruit with yellow flesh of good flavour. Matures after Christmas in Melbourne.
Flamekist
Flavourtop:
Early yellow flesh nectarine. Red skin with tendency to russet. Sweet, good flavour, freestone. Picking Dates: 16 to 28 Jan
Goldmine:
This is the old white-fleshed Nectarine, ripens late February-March and has intense rich flavour, but most important of all is fairly resistant to leaf curl. Not a dwarfing tree - grows happily to 4m tall and 4-5m wide. Self fertile. Picking Dates: 10 to 28 Feb

Sunmist:
A white flesh variety requiring up to 350 hours chill. A semiclingstone variety with medium to large fruit with a dull purple skin, firm flesh highly resistant to Bacterial spot,
Sunny (Dwarf nectarine):
Suitable for small spaces and little backyards, very good as a potted tree, a genuinely dwarfed specimen which if planted in the ground will grow 1 – 1.5 metres, fruits remain normal sized, good flavour, sweet yellow flesh
Sunraycer:
Yellow-fleshed nectarine. Semi-clingstone with well-shaped large sized fruit Good skin colour and non-browning flesh, Good flavour and 'high resistance to bacterial spot
Sunset Dwarf Redleaf:
High density flowering pink blossoms in spring with white flesh nectarines. Very low chill hours making it great for warmer climates. Great for pots and balconies. Will fruit by itself.
Sun Red:
Sunwright:
Earliest ripening, yellow-fleshed fruit, semi freestone, oval fruit, small to medium size with attractive colour. Slightly soft flesh, good flavour. 150 hours chill.
Redgold:
Medium to large yellow flesh nectarine. Ripens just after Flavortop, and has similar appearance and flavour. Freestone.
Picking Dates: 1 to 25 Feb
White Satin:
White aromatic flesh requiring 250 hours hill, Beautiful red skin and excellent quality fruit
